As the story goes, Alenka, an inspired young lady from Maidan, led an uprising against the czar, was burned mercilessly at the stake, and buried near her home. The Maidan rose is said to have grown upon her grave, and thus found its way into the motifs of the village’s work, a symbol of Maidan’s independent spirit. No two dolls are alike!
