This is a traditional hand-painted lacquer box depicting a scene from the iconic Russian fairy tale "The Snow Maiden". Box measures 3" x 2" x 1".
These works of art are usually drawn with the aid of a magnifying glass and fine brushes made from the tail of a squirrel. The artists who do this extremely intricate work usually live in one of four small Russian villages - Fedoskino, Palekh, Kholui or Mstera. Each village has its own four year school where students learn the techniques of miniature painting and the unique style of the village.
This box is vintage, and as such may have signs of age. Please be aware of this if you choose to purchase this product. Overall it is in good vintage condition, circa the 1990s.
