A hand-painted box to hold all your small treasures! This is a classic Russian lacquer box depicting villagers engaging at a traditional Russian market. It was painted by the artist Degov. Measures 3" x 2" x 1.5".
These works of art are usually drawn with the aid of a magnifying glass and fine brushes made from the tail of a squirrel. The artists who do this extremely intricate work usually live in one of four small Russian villages - Fedoskino, Palekh, Kholui or Mstera. Each village has its own four year school where students learn the techniques of miniature painting and the unique style of the village. This box hails from Kholui.
This item is vintage, and as such has signs of age. The top and bottom have signifigant crazing as pictured. The price has been reduced to reflect these flaws. Please be aware of this when you choose to purchase this product. Overall it is in fair vintage condition, circa the 1990s.
