This is a traditional hand-painted lacquer box with a Renaissance-style depiction of the nativity. It is signed by the artist, Kotov. Box measures 4" x 2.5" x 2.5".
These works of art are usually drawn with the aid of a magnifying glass and fine brushes made from the tail of a squirrel. The artists who do this extremely intricate work usually live in one of four small Russian villages - Fedoskino, Palekh, Kholui or Mstera. Each village has its own four year school where students learn the techniques of miniature painting and the unique style of the village.
This item is vintage, and as such may have minor signs of age. Please be aware of this when you choose to purchase this product. Overall it is in good vintage condition.
