A playful take on one of the most notorious Kings of England, King Henry the Cat opens up to his litter of six wives. History buffs who are also cat lovers are sure to recognize Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and wee little Catherine Parr. King Henry VIII wears regal period garb, as do his ladies. You can read the history and decide if this English monarch is lion-hearted or just a stray alley cat. 3-D wooden ears and muzzle have been attached to Henry's head to turn him into a very convincing cat fellow. Designed at the Golden Cockerel studio, this doll has been initialed and dated by the artist, then stamped with the Golden Cockerel logo of quality.
Production Techniques: Hand Painting. This nesting doll was carved in the Upper Volga region, the Russian center of nesting doll carving. The carved pieces were assembled, doll inside a doll, and then delivered to the Golden Cockerel workshop in St. Petersburg, Russia. Our artists painstakingly hand paint every detail, beginning with backgrounds and moving to the finer elements that require a brush of very select Siberian squirrel hair. It is daunting to think of the time and talent invested in each of the nesting pieces! Finally we baptize each doll in multiple layers of non-toxic water-based lacquer to make a marvelous matryoshka that will delight children and collectors. The bottom of the largest doll gets stamped with Golden Cockerel's "Made in Russia " mark of nesting doll quality, initialed by the artist, and dated like a true collectible. We can only hope you will give it a good home.
