This adorable heart shaped enamel pendant features a baby angel surrounded by a wreath of flowers. Set in silver plate, approximately 1” in length.
Russian enameling dates back to the late 1100's, where colored enamels were considered to be the most expensive and beautiful of items. Rostov enamels begin with a copper plate covered with white enamel powder. Then successive layers of enamel pigments are applied and fired in a kiln to "paint" the piece.
