the Russian North Box measures 6" x 4" x 1.5" and stands out as being quite different from the typical fairy tale box. It depicts cranes of happiness as they fly above a northern, summer landscape. Below them the islands in the stream are covered with wooden churches and houses so typical of Russia's far north. Though painted in Kholui, near Moscow, the artist (who initials the box G. D.) must be from the north, or at least very fond of it. This box is discounted due to fairly severe scuffing on the bottom, and some slight imperfections in the lacquer on the top.
