Our Russian nesting doll designer Roman Karkachev loves cold water. Swimming in cold water, to be more exact. He has travelled to the ends of the earth in search of extreme winter swimming opportunities. One of his adventures took him into the thrilling waters of the Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina. He swam among the icebergs, and survived (thank goodness!). When he came home, he went to work designing this nesting doll, celebrating the great glaciers of the world. Open this doll and you'll be cruising around Glacier Bay National Park, seeing killer whales, humpbacked whales, polar bears, Alaskan brown bears, fulmars, bald eagles, and maybe even various species of seals. Is that Roman sitting there with his sled dog watching the immense glacier calve and crash into the ocean? Don't worry about not being up to swimming in glacial waters, this Glacier Nesting Doll provides enough adventure for most of us!
Production Techniques: Hand Painting. This nesting doll was carved in the Upper Volga region, the Russian center of nesting doll carving. The carved pieces were assembled, doll inside a doll, and then delivered to the Golden Cockerel workshop in St. Petersburg, Russia. Our artists painstakingly hand paint every detail, beginning with backgrounds and moving to the finer elements that require a brush of very select Siberian squirrel hair. It is daunting to think of the time and talent invested in each of the nesting pieces! Finally we baptize each doll in multiple layers of non-toxic water-based lacquer to make a marvelous matryoshka that will delight children and collectors. The bottom of the largest doll gets stamped with Golden Cockerel's "Made in Russia " mark of nesting doll quality, initialed by the artist, and dated like a true collectible. We can only hope you will give it a good home.
