These bells are painted in the Classical nesting doll style using the blue and white colors of Russian Gzhel ceramics. The Russians call them nevalashka, whereas roly-poly chime doll is the terminology that best fits them in English. They do not open like other matryoshkas, but rather have a delightfully musical chime sealed inside their wooden body. Rock it back and forth and let it sing.
