This item qualifies for "CSPIA: Child Friendly" designation. It was painted at the Golden Cockerel workshop (not cottage industry) with paints that we have certified as non-toxic through expensive 3rd party testing. This item doesn't have attachments which might break off under stress and produce sharp edges.

This big matryoshka has 10 pieces that all nest together doll inside a doll. You will be amazed at how small the pieces get! Volga Maiden Nesting Dolls are our tribute to the toy-making villages of the Upper Volga River region and the traditional style they developed. These Russian dolls are decorated with floral design patterns that are very pleasing to the eye and echo the design motifs found along the Volga. While the dolls made by the villagers come in vatiety (colors as well as qualities), these nesting dolls made at the Golden Cockerel workshop are uniformly high quality and predictably pleasing to the discerning collector. Another difference is that we employ printed elements not only to achieve consistency, but also to keep the price down while at the same time delivering a quality product. Most importantly, we produce this nesting doll with paints that have been tested and verified as child-safe, meeting all CPSIA requirements. Because we produce this matryoshka doll in our own workshop, we can vouch for its toy safety compliance. A great gift or addition to your collector's shelf, she is sure to please.
Production Techniques: Hand Painting/ Decoupage. This nesting doll was carved in the Upper Volga region, the Russian center of nesting doll carving. The carved pieced were assembled, doll inside a doll, then delivered to the Golden Cockerel workshop in St. Petersburg, Russia. Our artists first hand paint the background, then apply various detailed elements, such as faces, which we print on a very thin vinyl adhesive. Such elements are reproduced original works of art we make specifically for nesting doll design. It is the artist’s magic brush that blends the two forms of artwork together into a unified piece. Finally we baptize each doll in multiple layers of non-toxic water-based lacquer to make a marvelous matryoshka that will delight children and collectors. The bottom of the largest doll gets stamped with Golden Cockerel’s “Made in Russia” mark of nesting doll quality, initialed by the artist, and dated like a true collectible. We can only hope you will give it a good home.
