The Fisherman & the Goldfish Box by Chigarev recounts the classic tale by Russian master poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. Here, the Palekh artist seems to be trying to see just how much detail can be artfully worked onto a 3.75" x 3" x 1.5" rectangular box lid. The super small size of the personages is mind boggling, with most of the figures measuring only about 1" tall. Chigarev signs and dates the box in year 2000, and assigns it Palekh opus #1055. It comes along with a certificate of authenticity that reads in both English and Russian:
"This certifies that this piece of lacquer art has been authenticated by the Artistic Council of the Association of Artists of Palekh and is painted by hand on papier mache in keeping with those standards set forth by the Association of Artists of Palekh."
