The details on this magical Fairy Tale Matryoshka pay homage to the poetic magic of Palekh characters, decorativeness of landscapes and architecture, and elongated proportions of the figures go back to the icon-painting traditions.  This is one of the most stunning nesting dolls to find its way to our gallery.  Signed and dated 1999, it is showing age on doll number 1 with some cracking and crazing.  This one belongs in The Museum of Russian Icons, but it's right here in Boone, NC.
